Beijing Jingyin Nanshan: A Unique and Innovative Hotel Design

Integrating Local Culture and Water Elements

Beijing Jingyin Nanshan, designed by Shuai Li, is a remarkable hotel that combines the local culture of Beijing's villages and countryside with innovative design elements. This multi-functional boutique hotel aims to cater to various needs, including parent-child activities, group gatherings, weddings, and photo shoots. With its integration of water elements such as private hot springs and swimming pools, this hotel offers a truly unique and immersive experience.

The design of Beijing Jingyin Nanshan draws inspiration from the concept of irregularities redefining rules. The courtyard layout is inspired by diamond cutting, symbolizing nobility and reflecting the water theme. By deconstructing traditional geometric forms, the design creates a new space that not only has a visual impact but also serves functional purposes.

The project covers a total area of 1600 square meters and features a white minimalist building that blends harmoniously with the surrounding countryside. The design incorporates the traditional sloping roof form of the village, transforming it into a symbolic element that extends throughout the space, creating an intimate and immersive environment.

The realization of this design involves the use of metal wave plates to create a montage of picture effects. Through reflection and stacking, these plates combine to form captivating visual compositions. This artistic approach, reminiscent of movie clips, narrates the plot, portrays characters, and creates a dynamic and engaging atmosphere.

One of the key strengths of Beijing Jingyin Nanshan is its ability to create different functions through the use of different masses and materials. The space is both transparent and suggestive, allowing for a seamless integration of material and texture in a white color palette. The result is a harmonious and balanced environment that is simple yet rich in its design.

The design team, consisting of Shuai Li, Weihua Yang, Changliang Jiang, and Meng Su, successfully overcame various creative, technical, and research challenges to bring this design to life. By incorporating elements such as mottled concrete roofs, country sack chandeliers, red brick bar counters, and original site materials, the space exudes a sense of authenticity and human touch.

Beijing Jingyin Nanshan was completed in December 2019 after a nine-month project duration. The design reflects a deep understanding of the local culture and a commitment to creating a highly inclusive and immersive utopia. It offers a space where people can freely breathe and explore beyond the boundaries of reality.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This award celebrates designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
